Healing From Trauma: A Mind-Body-Soul-Spirit Approach

The grief that followed my husband’s passing wasn’t just emotional—it was physical, mental, and spiritual too. The weight of trauma and loss affected every part of me. But through emotional intelligence (EQ) and a holistic approach, I learned how to tackle healing from all angles—mind, body, soul, and spirit.


Here’s how I did it:

  1. Recognizing and Challenging Negative Thought Patterns: After the loss, I found myself battling guilt and negative thoughts. I questioned what I could have done differently. Emotional intelligence taught me how to recognize these self-critical thoughts. Therapy and journaling became essential in helping me challenge those thoughts and recognize them for what they were—distorted and untrue.


  2. Self-compassion: I had a tendency to be hard on myself. But I realized that instead of judging myself for grieving, I needed to practice kindness. Emotional intelligence helped me be gentle with myself, acknowledging that the pain I was feeling was valid and real.


  3. Seeking Support and Building Connections: Grief can make you feel isolated, and I found that I often wanted to pull away. But emotional intelligence helped me realize that reaching out for support wasn’t weakness—it was strength. I started to connect with people who could offer understanding and comfort, and that made a huge difference.


  4. Healthy Coping Mechanisms: As grief triggered intense emotions, I had to find healthy ways to cope. Mindfulness, gentle movement like yoga, and creative outlets like painting and writing helped me manage my emotions. Prayer and spiritual reflection also provided me with peace and strength, helping me feel more grounded.


The holistic approach, combined with emotional intelligence, gave me the tools to heal on a deeper level. Instead of focusing solely on the pain, I learned to nurture every part of myself.
